School Board Recognition Month

 School Board Recognition Month

January is School Board Recognition Month, and I would like to take this opportunity to encourage the Crestview Community to thank our local Board of Education for all that they do for the students of our district!

Too often we forget about the important role that school board members play in assuring local control of our schools. Too often we are quick to criticize school board members without really knowing all of the details that went into a given decision. Often times, the efforts of school board members to improve our schools go unrecognized. We can begin to correct these oversights this month by beginning to better understand the role of school board member’s play by working together to provide leadership for our schools.

Our school board is one of 719 across the state of Ohio. The five members of our board are local citizens that have been elected by you to serve our schools. Their responsibilities include establishing policies and programs that provide the framework of our schools. Our board takes their responsibilities seriously by attending lengthy, sometimes challenging meetings, conferences and institutes where they broaden their knowledge about education. They have numerous conversations about our schools and about the impact of legislation in our children’s education.

Our school board is accountable to the public. The board is responsible to assuring the public that the money allocated to our schools is providing a good return on the investment. Therefore, the board oversees regular assessments of the district’s students, staff and programs. The board develops plans and adopts budgets that assure the fiscal stability of our district.

Most importantly, the Board works closely with parents, staff members, and our community to create an educational vision that we want for all of our students. With community input, the Crestview Board of Education has developed and published a 5-year strategic plan for the continued growth of our district. This document provides our community with a vision of excellence for our schools. This strategic plan formulates goals, defines results and sets the course for an adequate and equitable educational program for all students.

So this month, please join with me in thanking the Crestview School Board for all that they do in keeping Crestview “the heart of our community!” The members of the Crestview Board of Education and their years of service are:

Dr. Ed Miller, Board President 4 years

Brayden Tucker 2 years

John Garwood 6 years

James Weikart 12 years

Dave McGoogan Newly Elected

And a special thank you to David Vollnogle who decided not to run for re-election this year. David completed 16 years of service on the Board of Education.
